Sparring Gear

Students who are green belts or above should have sparring gear which consists of the following:

  • Reversible Taekwon-do competition hogu (chest guard).  Chest guard will be solid blue and red, and will cover most of the back.
  • Taekwon-do shin, or shin-and-instep guards
  • Taekwon-do forearm, or forearm-and-fist guards
  • Taekwon-do head gear
  • Mouthguard.  If students have a mouthguard from another sport that can use it here.  Students who have braces with brackets should use a mouthguard that is compatible with braces, such as Shock Doctor. Students with tray aligners should use the regular type of mouthguard and not rely on the trays to protect them.
  • A bag to carry everything in.

Male students will need a groin protector.  We do not sell groin protectors but they can be purchased at sporting goods stores.

All padded gear must be made for use in Taekwon-do as indicated above, so for example, soccer shin guards are not allowed. Gear can be purchased at the front desk. Please put your name on all of your equipment as it looks the same.
